Rugby is an amazing sport that builds endurance, tenacity and sportsmanship. At Waterloo County, we focus on player development and building the Rugby Club atmosphere – even if we may not have a clubhouse (yet…).
The following information is based on what has been communicated to the Club at this point for the 2025 season. If there is a change, I will update the information here. If you have any questions, please let me know.
At all junior, youth and minor levels, 2025 registration includes the following kit:
Waterloo County rugby shorts – new for 2025!
Waterloo County training top – new for 2025!
Waterloo County rugby socks
You will need to order the kit from our online store. I will send a link and instructions to all registered members when it is open. It will be open in early April to ensure we get the kit by the start of June. It will re-open a few times later in the year but delivery times are not guaranteed.
I have included the birth years for players in each age group (see brackets below). Rugby age groups are based on the calendar year of January 1 through to December 31 of that year. For example, to play on the U16 team, athletes must be born in 2009 or 2010.
Practices will start the week of May 12th at Bluevale!
Minor Rugby - U8 (2017 & 2018) & U10 (2015 & 2016)
Practices: Mondays and Wednesdays at Bluevale Collegiate from 5:30-7pm

We have applied to the following tournaments. I will update the list as we are granted entry.

Saturday, July 5th – Hamilton
Saturday, July 12th – Waterloo Family Day!

Youth Rugby – U12 (2013 & 2014) & U14 (2011 & 2012)
Practices @ U12: Mondays and Wednesdays at Bluevale Collegiate from 5:30-7pm
Teams @ U12: Rugby Ontario wants to have both coed and girls’ teams. Based on feedback during the first few weeks of practice, we will confirm what teams we are entering to tournaments. There is no guarantee to maintain team types as we bid to enter each tournament and it is based on their availability and if they are running that type of programming.
Rules @ U12: U12 athletes will be playing 7-aside rugby on a smaller field in 2025.
Tournaments: Festival style, typically from 9-noon(ish)

Rules @ U14: U14 athletes will be playing 13-aside rugby in 2025 as long as we have the numbers. If we do not have enough players, we will play 10-aside on a smaller field.
Games: A 12 week schedule will be provided by RO in the near future. We should have one game each weekend during the summer (mostly on Sunday mornings). We will not play on long weekends. This means a number of home games but also more travel to away games to ensure we don't play the same teams over and over again.
Junior Rugby – U16 (2009 & 2010) & U18 (2007 & 2008)
Rugby Ontario will have two levels of competition in 2025 – Regional and Cup.
Regional competition will be a development or house league where players can learn the ropes and gain technical and tactical skills at a lower level of competition. Regional competition will run from June to mid August.
Cup competitions will be more of a select league where the best 25 athletes from Waterloo County will battle other Cup teams in their four-team Cup Group with three home games and three away games. The best from each group will continue onto playoffs to see who is the best team in Ontario. Games will run from June to mid-August.
There is no training difference between the Cup and the Regional teams and teams will train together. Based on enrollment, we should have enough for both a Cup and Regional team. In order to ensure that, we need you to register AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!
The schedules have not been set yet but the information below is to the best of my knowledge at this time. I will update this information as it changes. I apologize for any changes but they are out of my control.
